Kay Thomson - ACA
Team Leader

 
Kay joined Malloch McClean in 1979 as a Trainee Accountant. Partway through 1986 Kay left full time employment to become a mother. During the period 1986 to 1999 she worked from home during the firm’s busy period fitting it around the busy life of three children.

She was also involved in many treasurers’ positions on various local committees and organisations.

Kay returned to working in the office during 1999. She went back to the classroom for a semester in 2003 and completed the necessary papers to obtain membership to the College of Accounting Technicians. With further experience she is now an Associated Chartered Accountant.

Currently Kay is Team Leader of one of the four accounting teams. She oversees the training programme for the new trainees and is a mentor for those gaining their AT and ACA qualifications. Away from work Kay likes to spend time with husband Ross, following her children’s sporting involvement, gardening and reading.

 

Alicia Thompson - BCom BA CA

 
Alicia was employed as a graduate accountant in 2004 after completing degrees in Accounting and Japanese at Otago University.

While working at Malloch McClean Alicia has completed her CA qualification. She is a senior accountant and is responsible for her team’s tax. She is also involved in the firm’s social activities and has recently competed in the Corporate Rowing Challenge.

Alicia plays tennis in her spare time and is the treasurer for the Waihopai Tennis Club and is involved with the court upgrade. She also enjoys spending time with friends and family.

Kent Donaldson - BCom BA

 
Kent started with us in 2003 as a trainee and spent three years studying in Invercargill before spending a further two years in Dunedin completing degrees in Accounting and Economics. He is now working towards his CA qualification.

Kent enjoys spending time at the beach surfing during the summer, and up the mountain snowboarding over the winter months.

Vanessa McKenzie - NZ DipBus

 
Vanessa joined Malloch McClean in October 2007 after working at Tax Link Dunedin for five years.

Vanessa is currently in the process of completing her ACA qualification.

Vanessa enjoys all sports especially netball. She enjoys the social aspect of Malloch McClean social teams and participates in touch, netball, basketball and rowing.

 

Jess Neilson- Dip Bus Mngmt

 
Jess recently passed her professional qualifying exam which is her second list requirement to gain her Accounting Technician qualification. Jess has been with Malloch McClean for six and a half years and is now an intermediate accountant on one of the accounting teams. Originally she was employed as Office Junior.

Jess was a part of Malloch McClean’s Corporate Rowing team this year and actively participates in social events held by Malloch McClean’s Social Club.

Outside work Jess enjoys socialising with friends and family and is a big softy when it comes to animals. Horse riding and walking the dog are two activities she enjoys in her leisure time.

Renee Potter

Renee has returned to Malloch McClean after spending a year in Dunedin studying towards her Bachelor of Commerce.  She will continue to study for the next year, part-time to finish off her degree and Dip Grad.

 

Renee started as an Accounting Trainee in 2005 and was with Malloch McClean for three years before heading to Dunedin.  During these three years Renee studied part-time at SIT.

 

Renee also works part-time at the Pioneer Tavern in Edendale.  Renee plays many different sports with her main focus being netball, she also enjoys reading a good book.

Shari Smith

 
Shari joined Malloch McClean in 2007 as a Trainee Accountant, having spent 2006 studying full-time at SIT towards her Bachelor of Accounting.

Shari attended Southland Girl’s High School and completed her Seventh Form year there in 2005.

Shari intends to complete her degree by correspondence.

Outside work Shari enjoys living in the country and spending time with family and friends.

Jane Blackmore
 
Jane started on the wages team in 2004 and transferred to the accounting team in 2006 as an accounting assistant.  Jane and her husband have three adult children and they run a sheep and beef farm.

 

Jane’s interests include handwork, reading and travel.  Jane is currently treasurer of Business & Professional Women – Southland.

 Caleb Wilson
 

Caleb became an accounting trainee at the beginning of 2009 after completing Year 13 at Central Southland College the previous year.  He is also studying at SIT part-time towards a B-Com degree.

 

He is off a grass-seed farm and has worked on a dairy farm in South Hillend for 5 years before starting at Malloch McClean. He enjoys trapshooting in his spare time and is a keen snowboarder in the winter.
